Follow below steps to limit download speed on Google chrome
Step 1. Open the Google Chrome browser, on right-hand side top corner you will find three vertical dots icon. Click on it and from the new dropdown menu select More Tools, and then click Developer Tools.
It will open a new window called Network Throttling Profiles, which will be empty
Note: Alternatively, you can access the Developer Tools panel by pressing Ctrl+shift+I or tap on the F12 key
Step 2. Now on the Developer Tools panel, go to Network Tab. In the second row select Online, from the new dropdown menu, tap on Add.
Step 3. It will open a new window called Network Throttling Profiles, which will be empty.
Step 4. Now click Add custom profile button, insert a profile name, specify maximum download speed limit in kilo bits per second (kb/s) (under download tab) and upload speed (optional) that you want to permit the current Chrome tab to apply. Latency fields you can leave it blank. Complete the task by clicking Add.
Pick a custom profile name that will help you identify the download speed quickly as you will be switching between profiles. For examples, pick a name like slow, medium and fast that reflects the speed limit.
Step 5. Now that you have created network profiles, exit the Network Throttling Profiles panel by tapping on the x icon on the upper-right corner of the screen.
If you need to add in more profiles or modify the existing ones, you can do it by returning to the Network Throttling Profiles window and following the steps mentioned above [in point #4].
Step 6. Next step to manage download speed in chrome is to apply the custom profile to the desired webpage page before you start downloading.
For this, you need to open a new tab and type in the webpage from where you want to download. Bring up the Developers Tools panel [follow steps #1 and 2]. Click Online option on the second row, this time the drop-down menu will also you added a list of custom profiles. Pick your preferred throttling profile and exit the panel. Start to download your desired content with the speed limit you have opted for.
Step 7. With these steps, you have learned to throttle download speed in Google chrome. Lastly, to disable Network Throttling Profile, you can close the tab, as it does not apply to all tabs or all Chrome windows.
