In the app Translate iOS 14 Apple focuses on translating conversations. Of course the app offers dictionaries, meanings and more functions, but without losing sight of the main objective, to make a conversation fluent. We can also use the app with or without an internet connection, in the second case we need to download the languages we want to translate into beforehand, let’s see how.
Offline translation, language download
By default the app uses the internet connection to access the latest translation memories, a setting that can be disabled and download the language packs to the device. We will do it by following these steps:
- We open the app Translate on our iPhone.
- We touch on the tab Translate.
- We play in one of the two languages at the top.
- In the section “Languages available without connection * we touch the small arrow next to the one we want to download.
That easy. The languages we play will show a small tick next to the name indicating that they are downloaded on our iPhone. Once downloaded, using the list All the languages, we can choose them and the translation will take place even if we do not have an internet connection.
At the time of writing this article the download of the 12 languages occupies exactly 4.17GB, which corresponds to 347MB per language. Thus, surely we can keep the languages that we use the most downloaded, but if we want to eliminate them, we just have to follow the previous steps up to step three. Below in the section Languages available offline we slide the language that we want to delete to the left and click on Remove.
For now the app is only available in 12 languages: Arabic, Chinese, British English, American English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish, although Apple has already expressed its intention to gradually add new languages. Without a doubt with the app Translate Apple makes it easy for us to communicate comfortably in whatever language we speak.
