In iOS 14 and iPadOS 14 Apple has added the possibility that we can configure our default browser and email client. This means that, if we wish, we can replace Safari and Mail with third-party appssuch as Gmail, Spark or DuckDuckGo, which will open by default when tapping links or typing emails.

In order to decide our default email client we need, first of all, to have iOS 14 or iPadOS 14 installed on our device. Secondly the app itself must be updated to support this feature. For now, the most popular apps such as Gmail, Outlook or Spark have already been updated and it is hoped that other customers will do so soon.

Gmail, Outlook, or Spark as the default email app

In our particular case we will use the Spark app, from the developers of Documents, but the steps will always be the same, these:

  1. We open the app Settings on our iPhone or iPad.
  2. We came in Spark (in this case).
  3. We played on Default mail app.
  4. We choose the one we want to use.

So far we have configured our iPhone or iPad to use the app we want. Now, the first time we are going to use the app from a link, the system will ask us for permission:

  1. We open the app Contacts.
  2. We choose a contact from whom we have an email.
  3. We touch on your email address.
  4. We touch Open.

Open

With this first Open the system will know that we really want to use the app that we have configured as the default app for our email. Let’s keep in mind that because of a bug In iOS 14, as well as in the first beta of iOS 14.2, the default app settings it is lost after restarting our iPhone or iPad.

That easy. With these steps we can configure the default email client that we want to use on our iPhone or iPad. What do we want to return to Mail? It is enough that we enter Settings Let’s touch on our current client and on Default mail app let’s choose Mail.
