Today we are going to explain how to delete temporary files from Windows 10. They are a type of file that Windows was storing to perform specific operations, and that over time accumulate without having special utilities. Therefore, deleting them is always the first step to free up some internal storage on your computer.

We will explain two ways to do it. We will start with the main method that you can continue using Windows 10, which is to eliminate them through the configuration menu and the options designed for it. But later, we will also briefly mention two other alternative ways of proceeding, although in essence, they do exactly the same, although somewhat less completely.

Delete your temporary files in Windows 10

The first thing you have to do to delete the temporary files and enter the Windows Settings menu, which is where the operating System allows you to change any of its aspects. Once in it, click on the System option, which is where you will have what refers to your internal Storage.

Once in the System category, in the left column, click on the Storage option (1) to access all the options related to it. Now, in the right column, you will see first of all the hard drives you have on your computer. Click on This computer (C 🙂 (2) to access the memory configuration of the main Windows hard disk.

After a few seconds of waiting, the screen you will enter will show you which are the main types of files with which you are occupying your computer’s hard drive. Here click on the Temporary files category to access the breakdown.

On this screen, you will be shown the types of temporary files on your computer, and you will be allowed to delete the ones you want. To do this, select the types of temporary files you want to delete. You will be able to select the conventional temporary files, the files in the download folder, the ones in the recycle bin, and the ones from the previous versions of Windows.

Once you have selected the types of temporary files you want to delete, scroll down on the same screen until you see the Remove files button. Here just click on this button Remove files to start the deletion of the ones you have selected.

Other methods you can use.

If you don’t want to use Windows settings, you can also open the Disk Cleanup application, although, in essence, you will do exactly the same as in the previous step. To start, you can choose the types of files you want to delete from your computer (1), and then you only have to press the Clean system files button (2) to proceed.

And if you are one of those who like to do things by hand, you can always open Windows File Explorer, and enter the C: \ Windows \ Temp folder. All conventional temporary files are housed in it, so deleting them manually can avoid other processes.
