How to Save Space by Cleaning Windows’ WinSxS Folder

There are two methods to save space by cleaning windows’ WinSxS folder,which is as follows:

Method 1: Use Disk Cleanup

Step 1. Go to Start menu search box and type Disk Cleanup and click on it.

Step 2. A window will appear on the screen, tap the “Cleanup system files” button from it.

Step 3. Then check the box found beside the “Windows Update Cleanup” option.

Step 4. Now, hit the Ok button below the box to complete the process.

Additional info: When there is no Windows Update Cleanup option in Disk Cleanup window, it signifies there aren’t any files to delete.

Method 2: Use Command Prompt

Step 1. On the Start search boxtype cmd and right-click on the Command Prompt app to open the Command Prompt (Admin) window from the menu list.

Step 2. From the pop-upbox, click on Yes that will open up the Command Prompt (Admin) window.

Step 3. Enter the following command in it:
Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup

Step 4. For a couple of minutes, the DISM tool will analyze the folder to show you the size specifications of the components in the WinSxS folder.

Step 5. Further, if recommended to clean up the folder enter the following command to cleanup WinSxS Folder:
Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup
